Renting a teleprompter in the Philadelphia area can be a nerve racking experience, especially if this is your first time renting a teleprompter. You are anxious to make sure that you make the right decision because you need the right teleprompter for your project, and an experienced operator to operate it.
Here are some tips to help you to make an informed decision.
What is a teleprompter?
A teleprompter, or autocue, is a display device that prompts the person speaking with an electronic visual text of a speech, script, or song. Using a teleprompter is similar to using cue cards. But instead of having physical cue cards, you have the words displayed on a monitor and reflected by a specially coated glass mirror, called a beam splitter.
There are basically three different teleprompter setups:
1) Camera Teleprompter System: This system is the most common system used in video production. It allows the talent to look directly into the camera while reading her script. The camera is placed directly behind the teleprompter’s glass. Often the talent cannot see the camera and only sees her script.
2) Presidential Teleprompter System (aka “Speech Prompter”): This system is most commonly used for live speeches. There are usually two reflective mirrors, also referred to as paddles, which reflects the talent’s speech, set up to the right and left of the talent. The talent can see his the speech which is reflected from a monitor on the ground…the audience does not see the speech. Since the mirrors are only reflective on one side, the audience can see the talent through the glass, giving the illusion that the talent is speaking directly to the audience.
3) Confidence Monitors (aka “Down Stage Monitors”): Confidence monitors are often used in conjunction with or instead of the presidential teleprompter system. Confidence monitors are usually LCD monitors, 26″ to 52″ placed on the floor facing the speaker. The speaker’s speech is prompted to the confidence monitors. The advantage of confidence monitors is that they allow the speaker to roam the stage while delivering a speech. Contact us for a quick quote for confidence monitors for your project. Down Stage Monitors are also used for live theatre and concert performances. Small to large monitors can be placed on stage in strategic places so that only performers see the words that are being prompted. You may be surprised but even big named artists use confidence monitors. Contact us for a quick quote for confidence monitors for your project at 609.784.2427 .
